In my high school yearbook, back in the late 1980s, my senior quote was this:
“Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans.” – John Lennon
I can’t recall what spurred me to share that particular bit of wisdom. I like the Beatles well enough, but I’m not an avid fan. It pleases me to think that my teenage self was somehow drawn to this quote, which still rings true now, in my mid-40s.
It’s certainly an apt description of this past week. I had plans to share blog posts with you on playfulness and being your authentic self in community. I’ll have them for you another time, but tonight I’m kind of feeling like my cat Percy was this morning when we woke up:
My beloved aunt, who lives next door and is like a second mother to me and my clan, fell on Tuesday and broke her hip. She has osteoporosis and arthritis, and over the past three years she’s had five surgeries, for breaks and joint replacements. So you can see how we might all feel like wailing “it’s just not fair!” on her behalf, or just staying in bed, like Percy.
In sharp contrast, the week started with a workshop on Monday that really rocked my world, in terms of my writing career and building my business. I have a lot of cool projects in the works that will be influenced by what I learned there.
Those plans will have to wait for a bit, while life continues to happen.
I didn’t get much writing done this week, though I’m mentally composing my top ten tips for spending time in the hospital (as a visitor or patient), especially if you’re highly sensitive. I’ll add that one to the list of upcoming posts.
Don’t get me wrong, though, I don’t begrudge a single moment. I have the best family ever, and I will always happily share my time and energy to nurture and support them. I love how even in the emergency room (for ten hours, thank you very much), we always get each other laughing.
Life is good, and I feel blessed to have such wonderful people to share it with. Including you, dear reader. Thanks for sharing some of your precious time with me here at Starcat’s Corner.
And now I’m off to bed with Percy Lovecat. Sweet dreams!
